Madhya Pradesh: Killing could be related to illegal mining
A journalist was allegedly killed by the mining mafia in Madhya Pradesh. Sandeep Kothari, a correspondent for a Jabalpur daily, was kidnapped on Friday, choked to death and set on fire, according to police officials. The murder is believed to have been committed by the mining mafia after Kothari refused to withdraw a case against illegal mining he had filed in a local court. Kothari's body was found on Saturday night in Maharashtra's Wardha district ,where it had apparently been dumped. The police have arrested two people in the case and are currently searching for the third.

Delhi: BJP will protest against AAP government
The Delhi division of the Bharatiya Janata Party announced on Sunday that it will be holding a "massive demonstration" against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party state government for alleged misgovernment, misuse of funds and failing to fulfill election promises. The demonstration will be held on Tuesday at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, the party said.

Punjab: CM says Punjab fighting India's drug war
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Sunday that his state was fighting the "nation's war" against drugs, but was being "belittled by inimical forces". Claiming that Punjabis were keeping India free from drugs by keeping strict checks on their borders, Badal said the forces wary of the state's "peace and prosperity" had tarnished its image and labeled its residents as "drug addicts."

Uttar Pradesh: Murdered journalist's father offered bribe 
Murdered journalist Jagendra Singh's father complained  to the police on Sunday that he was approached by men asking him to withdraw the case filed against his son's murder. The men reportedly offered Singh's father Rs 20 lakh and a government job for any family member. Jagendra Singh was allegedly set on fire by policemen who had conducted a raid at his home on June 1. The raid was allegedly conducted at the behest of state minister for the Welfare of Backward Classes, Ram Murti Verma. Verma had been named by Singh in cases related to corruption and was involved in allegations of rape. Singh died on June 8 at a Lucknow hospital while under treatment for severe burns.

Jharkhand: MJ Akbar to contest in RS by-poll
Noted journalist and Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson M J Akbar will be contesting for the Rajya Sabha in a by-election from Jharkhand, said a party release. The by-election has been caused by the resignation of Kanwar Deep Singh. The polling, if necessary, will be held on July 2. The seat will hold only for a year and will be again up for a regular biennial election for a full six-year term next year.
